Volunteer!

The Dexter-Ann Arbor Run couldn't go on without the help of hundreds of volunteers who do things such as:

  • Staff the race expo, staging areas, and aid stations
  • Collect timing chips and hand out finisher medals
  • Man the post-race food tables and clean up

If you'd like to pitch in, let us know! Can't be there on race day? We've got some pre-race activities that need volunteers as well.

All volunteers receive the following benefits:

  • An invitation to our fun pre-race intro & goodie bag stuffing party
(includes light dinner and live musical entertainment) Check out the bag stuffing party flyer!
  • 50% off discount tickets to the Taste of Ann Arbor. (limit 1 sheet per volunteer)
  • A free race T-shirt! (The real McCoy - not a goofy volunteer shirt)
  • An invitation to the DxA2 Volunteer Appreciation Party at the AA Summerfest's Top of the Park.
(Last year's was a lot of fun - I'm sure this one will be also! Check out the vol. appreciation party flyer!)

DxA2 On-line Volunteer Registry

All volunteers are requested to register on the volunteer on-line registry each year. Even if you are a returning volunteer – registering will let us know when you’d like to help out, and also give you the chance to update your contact info. This allows us to better organize and manage our large volunteer work force. It helps us a lot and it only takes a minute – please register! We have deactivated the volunteer registry at this point.

If you still want to volunteer please send a note asap to volunteer@dexterannarborrun.com. We can always use a few more. Thanks!

Volunteer Parking:

All parking is free in Ann Arbor on Sunday's. For volunteers starting early (6 AM), the main lot at Ann & Ashley (220 N Ashley) should have plenty of space, but that will fill quickly with runners as will many lots around town.  We plan to hold a number of volunteer paking spots at the Country Courthouse lot at Ann and Fourth (access off Fourth) so you should try that lot also.  If that is not avaiable you will have to look around a bit. There are other parking structures in downtown Arbor, notably the lot on 4th & Washington or the lot at 4th & William. (Both are south of Huron) There are also surface lots and street parking.  Here is the Ann Arbor DDA website that covers the downtown Ann Arbor parking options .

Group Support

We have various opportunities for groups to assist with the race. If you have a group of people of ~6 or more that would like to volunteer to assist at the race, please feel free to contact race director Hal Wolfe by phone at (734) 487-5616 or contact our volunteer coordinator via e-mail: groupvolquestions@dexterannarborrun.com (Opportunities are limited and vary depending on race changes and previous group commitments.)

Host an Aid Station

Note: Host groups have claimed all of the aid stations for the upcoming race, but it's never too early to think about assisting in future years.

If you have a large group of friends or an organization that would like to help out together as a group right along the course, a great way to do this is to host an aid station.

Benefits of hosting an aid station:

  • Take pride in supporting a long standing community event.
  • Enjoy the AATC volunteer party ~2 weeks before the race.
  • Have fun watching the parade of up to 6,000 people.
  • Meet & greet the runners & walkers as they stream past.
  • Enjoy the aid station entertainment we provide.
  • Free event T-shirts for all volunteers.
  • Get great visibility for your group or business at the event.
  • Get additional visibility with listing on the event Web site.
  • Garner community goodwill from your efforts.

Aid station host responsibilities:

  • Recruit a team of ~12-15 coworkers, friends and/or family.
  • Set up the stand the morning of the race starting at ~7 AM.
  • Serve water & Gatorade to the passing runners for ~1-2 hrs.
(AATC provides and delivers all tables & supplies.)
  • Clean up a bit afterwards. (AATC picks up the equipment.)

There are limited opportunities to host an aid station for this fantastic event. If interested contact Hal Wolfe at (734) 487-5616 or volunteer@dexterannarborrun.com.
